Part P – Domestic Electrical Installer

Course Description

This course provides you with the understanding to comply with the Part P building regulations.  It confirms that you have the training, knowledge and required qualifications to be able to carry out electrical work in the domestic settings.  This adds to your other qualifications allowing you to join the Competent Person Self-Certification Scheme and allows you to certify your own domestic work.

Depending on your experience we offer three different routes:

Option 1

Qualified and Experienced Electricians

This one-day classroom based course covers the building regulations.  You will be tested at the end of the day via an open book examination.  This allows you to further your knowledge and gain Part P to join competent person scheme and self-certify domestic work.

Option 2

Limited Skills and Experience

This five days classroom based course covers all in scope of Part P qualification and also include workshop sessions on basic lighting and socket circuits.  At the end of the fifth day you are expected to take an open book examination and a practical assessment to secure the qualification.  You can then operate as a domestic installer.

Option 3

No Experience of Electrical Installation

This course is delivered over 22 days in classroom and workshop covering the requirements for becoming domestic installer.  These include Part P building regulations, a five day domestic installer practical workshop, the 18th edition BS7671 wiring regulations, a PAT testing course and the Inspection and Testing course.

To gain all of the qualifications you will be expected to complete a range of online examinations and practical assessments.  On successful completion this course allows registration to NICEIC Approved Installer Scheme allowing you to sign off and certificate works.

  • Electrical safety legislation and regulations
  • Building regulations requirements
  • Pre work survey and inspect and test procedures
  • Safe isolation
  • Fault finding and rectification
  • Earthing and Bonding
  • Correct selection and erection of electrical equipment
  • Correct recording of results and completion of required documentation
  • Special locations
  • Requirements for new circuits
  • Understanding of basic 3 phase supplies
